Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Tuesday 17 April that he and his government will resign "in the days that follow" this Sunday 24 April, in the event of victory of Emmanuel Macron in the presidential election.

The French political landscape should change this Sunday 24 April 2022: the French have an appointment in their polling station, to elect the next President of the Republic. A survey Ipsos Sopra Steria for Le Parisien, Radio France and France Télévisions, published by the Parisien this 19 April 2022, gives Emmanuel Macron at the head of this presidential election, with 56% of the votes in his favour.

It is therefore possible that the outgoing president will be elected for a second term. However, many changes should still take place in the event of the re-election of Emmanuel Macron.

Indeed, Jean Castex announced that he would soon put an end to his functions as Prime Minister . “ I am among those who think that a new impetus after the re-election of the president must be found. After this re-election, in the days that follow, as tradition dictates, I will present my resignation and that of the government to the President of the Republic ”, he indicated at the microphone of France Inter .

The current Prime Minister therefore does not plan to remain in office until the legislative elections , which are held on 17 and 17 next June. On the other hand, if Marine Le Pen is elected this Sunday at the head of the country, Jean Castex does not promise to leave office so quickly. "It all depends on the fate of the ballot boxes on Sunday", he slipped.

If Emmanuel Macron is re-elected, he will have to choose a new right arm, and appoint a new government ... For, perhaps, having to change it after the legislative elections. Indeed, many candidates and political figures involved in these elections encourage the French to vote differently.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Marion Maréchal-Le Pen hope that the Republic on the move will lose the majority in the National Assembly in June 2022, forcing Emmanuel Macron into political cohabitation for the next five years.
