Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, the Cluny Museum is housed in the Hôtel des Abbés de Cluny, dating from the 13th century, and it houses works of art even older than that! From the 12 may 2022 , visit this museum dedicated to the Middle Ages in Paris.

After many years of modernization work, which focused on "physical accessibility to the museum " but also on the restoration and development of a new museum tour, the Musée de Cluny finally reopens its doors to visitors, the 01 may 2022.

The Latin Quarter, in Paris, finally sees its Museum of the Middle Ages resume his activities. This museum, if it is not one of the most famous cultural places in the capital, has everything to become an essential artistic spot in the capital, since this modernization project should make it possible to enlarge the museum with an annex adjoining the terms of Cluny, one of the rare ancient monuments of the city of Paris.

From now on, visitors in wheelchairs, those who have difficulty getting around, families with pushchairs, the elderly... have elevators, access ramps and an easily accessible visit route, in particular thanks to the creation of a single-storey reception building.

The visit route has been redesigned. The museum promises “ architectural tours will be offered when the museum reopens in the spring 2022. Some ancient spaces, hitherto invisible, will be accessible by guided tour, such as the plaster room, the Gothic cellar or the Roman annex. These new proposals will provide a more complete and understandable visit to the Cluny thermal baths complex. " In the 21 rooms along the route, you can admire “a renewed selection of 1 624 works, among the major pieces of a collection representing the richness and diversity of the Middle Ages”, indicates the museum in a press release.

The museum is as if transformed: the large well-lit rooms highlight the monumental remains, steeped in history. Games of transparency andopenings allow you to admire at a glance eye several works, which seem to dialogue through the spaces. The Cluny Museum wanted to highlight the works from the Notre-Dame Cathedral, to underline its unique link with this iconic monument of Paris.

The new visit route has been enriched, with the addition of many works, preserved until now in the museums archives. interactive digital panels also provide modern didactic elements, which complete this tour.
