As part of the renovation project around the Eiffel Tower, the mayor of Paris wishes to cut down several trees, some of which are centenarians. A situation that caused a real outcry on social networks.

For several months, the redevelopment project of the Eiffel Tower has been causing a stir, local residents and defenders heritage opposing it. The City of Paris, for its part, wished to start the works as soon as possible, in order to complete them for the Olympic Games in 2026. And it is the latter which won its case last February, the Council of Paris having given the green light. But a new controversy swells, while trees must be felled in number near the Eiffel Tower, some of which are centenarians.

It was the journalist Hugo Clément who relayed this situation, after an internet architect was indignant to see these large century-old trees disappear, replaced by the construction of commercial facilities. He challenged the mayor of Paris and his deputy Emmanuel Grégoire, who defended the project by indicating that it would " improve the working conditions of the agents and reception of the public of the Eiffel Tower and gardens". The deputy adds that he is " studying ways to avoid the felling of the 2 trees mentioned ".

😡SCANDALOUS! These magnificent, century-old trees at the foot of the #EiffelTower will be felled to create commercial facilities, "luggage storage" and offices, as part of a pharaonic project rejected by Parisians! #Ecology #Paris #OurHeritage #ChampdeMars
