In France, the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic encourages the government to lift a new restriction. Thus 16 May 2022 marks the end of the wearing of the compulsory mask in public transport.

For more than two years, French people who take public transport must not forget their mask, in addition to their transport card. While this gesture has become usual and the mask is no longer mandatory indoors since March 14 2022, it remained in demand until then in public transport, i.e. metros, trains, buses and trams. From now on the French will also be able to wear the mask during their journeys from 16 may 2022.

In April, Emmanuel Macron indicated in an interview with Brut that he was " reasonable to consider lifting the obligation to wear the mask in transport next summer ". In recent weeks, the numbers have continued to fall, confirming a rapid easing of the rules as summer approaches.
