Amazon unveils same-day delivery service from brick-and-mortar stores

Amazon is reportedly adding some of the brick-and-mortar retail stores to same-day delivery offerings for its Prime subscribers.

To begin, Amazon is offering same-day delivery from the vitamin retailer, GNC, and apparel stores like Diesel, PacSun, and Superdry in 10 cities across the United States.

Amazon revealed that while Prime members can enjoy this service for free if they spend more than $25, while the service charge would be $2.99 if the bill is for less than $25.

Few retailers are also giving options to the users to order online and pick up the products later from the store.

According to sources, Amazon is experimenting with its Flex delivery drivers, who are supposed to pick packages from mall-based retailers and drop off the packages at the doorstep of the customers.

It has been reported that Amazon has been heavily investing to make one-day and same-day delivery (in some areas), the default mode for its Prime members. It has enhanced the number of products that can be delivered in one-day, besides having “thousands” of items that can be delivered in a few hours.

A rapid increase in ultrafast grocery platforms during the last year has proven that the demand for faster delivery options remains high. To adhere to this demand, retailers have also begun to partner with popular online delivery service providers such as Uber’s Postmates, DoorDash, UPS’ Roadie, Instacart, and Target’s Shipt.

Under this new partnership, while retailers will now fulfil orders directly from their stores’ inventory, a delivery driver from Flex will pick them up from the retailer. This will allow Amazon to ensure that the purchases reach the shoppers’ doorsteps even faster.

Amazon is not the sole company that is looking beyond its warehouses to fulfil the growing e-commerce orders. Other giants like Target and Walmart are also looking forward to their brick-and-mortar footprints to speed up their deliveries to expand their market share in the e-commerce segment as well.
