HCL expands Vancouver office with plans to hire 80 additional employees

HCL Technologies Ltd., the India based multinational company has announced taking over 9,000 square feet area at its present office on 580 Granville St., Vancouver.

As per sources, a representative of the company informed that it plans to bring on board additional 80 workers at the premises, which will be a dedicated centre for research and development.

Reportedly, HCL claims to bring on board 1,000 additional employees in the country in the coming three years.

The expansion of HCL in Vancouver is a result of other tech firms continuing to scoop up office space in the heart of the city.

For the unversed, the company is renowned for developing IT services and software for firms ranging from healthcare to defence. Currently, the company has over 200,000 employees placed in 52 nations, including 2,000 in Canada.

Over the years, companies found in Vancouver such as fintech Tipalti Inc., PlentyOfFish, medical devices companies Microsoft Corp. and Masimo Corp. are some of the American tech firms deepening their roots in the city.

According to reports, vacancy rate at Vancouver’s downtown office has been claimed to be around 7.4% in the second quarter of 2022. However, Victoria’s downtown office rate sits at 6.1%, relatively less than the others.

It has been speculated that big tech firms particularly those occupying 50,000 sq. Ft or more have been more active tenants in Vancouver.

As per CBRE Group Inc., Real Estate services company, Vancouver has been ranked as the No.11 tech hub in North America after Toronto at No. 4 and Ottawa at No.10 the previous year.

CBRE Group stated that due in part to exchange rates, Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Waterloo offer the best in value in terms of quality and price, referring to the comparatively lower yearly salaries given to the workers in comparison to the big American tech hubs.
