Jamaican Government receives electric vehicles for trial period testing

Vehicles from Flash motors to provide decision-makers the idea of electric vehicles benefits

With countries across the world adopting electric vehicles (EVs) for curbing the climate change crisis, Jamaica has jumped forward to follow the path of sustainable energy as 5 government ministries have been reportedly invited to be a part of the Electric vehicle Trial Program by the Government of Jamaica (GOJ)

As per sources, Flash Motors- one of the exclusive electric transport solution providers in Jamaica- under the IDB (Inter-American Development Bank) funded program, has collaborated with the Stewart’s Automotive Group, a leading automotive distributor to lend BYD electric vehicles to the government units for a period of trial.

Notably, the initiative was launched at the Stewart’s Automotive Group Land Rover/ Jaguar showroom on 8th July where the vehicles were offered to the Ministry of Mining and Transport and the Ministry of Finance leaving three spots vacant for other ministries to take part in the program.

Moreover, the project will also witness every ministry receive a state-of-the-art ABB Terra AC Smart EV charging station, offered by the Public Service Company (PSC) in Jamaica, for future utilization in the deployment of electric vehicles.

Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica, mentioned during the event that the country should quickly move to avoid an inflow of outdated technology.

Andrew stated that in the coming 8-10 years, multiple nations would make it mandatory for a major portion of their vehicles to be electric. Encouraging Jamaica to not lay back and position itself to be the beneficiary of vehicles, Andrew added that they would position themselves to be able to take benefit of the most efficient technology available.

For the uninitiated, the program is meant to offer decision-makers a first-hand understanding of the environmental safety, economic benefits, and performance efficiency of electric vehicles.
