Sysco donates $1Mn to Feeding America for supporting local food banks

Sysco Corporation, an American multinational foodservice distribution corporation, has recently announced a donation of $1 million to Feeding America® for supporting the local food banks in its operational communities.

This donation will be allocated to 42 food banks in the country as part of Sysco’s Nourishing Neighbors® program, in which a portion of every Sysco branded case’s proceeds sold in the local communities is donated back to the charitable organizations in those communities.

Neil Russell, Sysco’s Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Chief Communications Officer, mentioned that being a well-recognized brand in food service distribution, the firm is responsible for giving back to the communities that rendered their support to it via the Nourishing Neighbors program.

Neil further stated that the team feels privileged to donate to their longtime partner, Feeding America, in assisting the communities to fight hunger.

For the unversed, every dollar donated to Feeding America would help offer access to 10 meals. Thus, through the donation, Sysco will offer 10 million meals to people in need, significantly when the hunger crisis worsens due to supply chain issues and impacts of inflation.

Erika Thiem, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Feeding America, notified that even though the pandemic relief is withdrawing gradually, the skyrocketing prices of food and gas are bringing more and more people to food pantries and food banks to seek help.

Essentially, this is the time when hunger relief programs would require more support.

Erika further expressed gratitude for Sysco’s donation, as it will help Feeding America to offer equitable access to healthy, nutritious food in communities that require it the most. Since its inception, Sysco’s Nourishing Neighbors program has contributed around $12 million to charitable organizations.

Sources confirm that Sysco has committed to donating around $500 million worth of goods to the global communities by FY 2025 via cash contributions, product donations, and volunteer service to the vast requirement.
